Annie Leverich - Fire Adapted Communities Learning Network (FAC Net) Communications Manager

As Communications Manager, Annie supports FAC Net's member network and designs practitioner-focused content for FAC Net's website, blog, and social media channels. Annie spearheads FAC Net's content development strategy with a focus on celebrating fire practitioner projects, producing educational materials, and increasing access to fire-related information. In addition, Annie supports content development for TREX, WTREX, and a handful of prescribed burn associations. As a qualified FFT2, she can occasionally be found out in the field working side-by-side with California fire practitioners, building community and satisfying her intermittent need for some time on the drip torch. Annie earned a B.A. in Anthropology from Grinnell College. Annie joined the FAC Net team in January 2022 and is excited to broadcast the message of fire safety with warmth and enthusiasm. Based in Oakland, CA, Annie is an experimental cook, an amateur cartoonist, and a caretaker for two rambunctious cats.

Emery Cowan - Fire Adapted Communities Learning Network Program Manager

Emery works with the Fire Adapted Communities Learning Network to develop training materials and resources, support peer-to-peer learning opportunities, and help coordinate communications strategies and partnerships.

Prior to joining FAC Net, Emery was a program manager for the Rural Voices for Conservation Coalition where she focused on developing learning resources, peer-learning events, and working groups to help practitioners better understand and engage with programs and policies for collaborative land stewardship. Emery has also worked as a local newspaper reporter in southwest Colorado and northern Arizona covering everything from local government to public health and environmental issues.

Emery is passionate about empowering partners to create and implement solutions for adaptation and resilience. Emery earned her B.S. in journalism and Spanish at the University of Colorado and her M.S. in environmental science and policy at Northern Arizona University. She lives in Hood River, Oregon and enjoys hiking, biking, skiing, and running around the beautiful Columbia River Gorge.

Emily Troisi - Fire Adapted Communities Network Director

Emily acts as a liaison to several FAC Net members, serves as a state network advisor, and supports the staff running member and practitioner learning, training, and capacity-building services. She serves as logistics lead for in-person FAC Net workshops and has led a number of special projects for the network, including developing the FAC graphic and facilitation guide. On a typical Wednesday, you can find Emily in virtual meetings with network members across the country, strategizing network functions, and thinking up creative facilitation and agenda design concepts. Her favorite thing about working for a network of community wildfire practitioners is the creativity and passion that the people in the network bring to their work. Emily lives in Boulder, Colorado, and has worked remotely for the Watershed Center as FAC Net staff since October 2014. She graduated from the University of New Hampshire with her B.S. in Environmental Conservation Studies and M.S. in Human Dimensions in Natural Resources Management. Emily has a passion for community involvement in emergency management and works part-time at her local Office of Disaster Management. She also loves to rock climb, garden, do pottery, and spend quality time with her dog.

Tiernan Doyle - Fire Adapted Communities Network Strategy Director

As the Strategy Director for the Fire Adapted Communities Network, Tiernan brings over a decade of work in community disaster response and recovery to support network members in defining, envisioning, and building the fire future they want. On the day to day she works with both members and partners to identify key needs and deliver the toolkits, trainings, and other content to meet those needs. She is also responsible for building data pipelines and reporting systems for monitoring, learning, and evaluation and turning data analysis into strategic planning for network operations.

Tiernan’s past work includes co-founding a nonprofit for local flood relief and recovery, designing and managing community resilience programs for multi-stakeholder coalitions, and developing community engagement plans and programs for the American Meteorological Society. She is passionate about supporting systems and processes that are people-first and tailored to local culture and needs. Tiernan holds a Master’s of Landscape Architecture from Cal Poly Pomona, as well as an MA in Classical Languages from UC Berkeley. When not working she spends her time trail running with her dog, weaving a growing mountain of textiles, and taking pictures of the stars at sunrise.
