Recreation
As more people discover the scenic beauty of Trinity County, local residents will have the opportunity to capitalize on tourism benefits brought to our rural communities. The Watershed Center Trail Crew works with the USFS and BLM to help meet the maintenance demand for our local trail systems. Since 2001, our trail crews have assisted with caretaking the trails around Hayfork, including hiker and equestrian trails in the Chanchelulla Wilderness and Yolla Bolly-Middle Eel Wilderness, multi-use non-motorized trails like the South Fork Trinity River National Recreation Trail, and maintenance of OHV routes around South Fork Mountain.
The Recreation Program has been growing with the rest of the Watershed Center, bolstering our capacity to increase recreation offerings on land and in the water. Our current projects span the extent of the County. We have expanded the trail systems of Ewing Reservoir in Hayfork and Weaver Basin Trail System in Weaverville. Our recent accomplishments include working with the USFS, Redding Trail Alliance, and Trinity Trail Alliance to complete Al Browder Trail, Blue Lead, Black Lead, and the highly anticipated Sweepstakes Trail, all located in the Weaver Basin.

The Trail Crew is always glad to receive help from volunteers! We also host Trail Maintenance Workshops: multi-day classes targeted toward those community members who want to take a more direct hand at caretaking their favorite trails. Have you ever thought of putting a trail on your property? We can build it! We specialize in multi-use, hiker & equestrian, and mountain bike specific trails.
