The Watershed Center, along with the Trinity Integrated Fire Management Partnership, is excited to conduct multiple cooperative prescribed burns in the Hayfork Area this Thursday through Saturday, June 15th-17th. Burning will take place in the Big Creek and Cedar Gulch areas.
Watershed Center staff will be joined by Hayfork and Hyampom Volunteer Fire Departments, Big Chico Creek Ecological Reserve, the Tribal Ecorestoration Alliance, and other partners for invasive species reduction. Proper timing of these burns, associated with the phenology of yellow star thistle (mid to late June), is critical to reducing the population through the use of fire.
The team has acquired an air quality permit from the North Coast Unified Air Quality Management District and CAL FIRE permits are in place. Smoke may be visible from Hwy 3 and Hyampom Rd with ignitions starting after 9am each day. We will monitor for adequate smoke dispersion throughout the duration of the burn.
Prescribed fire is a critical tool in our land management toolbox. We appreciate your support in our efforts to make our communities safer and repair our ecosystems. Please call our office with any questions. (530) 628-4206.
