Watershed Assessment and Environmental Planning

Our watershed assessment and environmental planning spans multiple sciences, strategies and implementation areas. Our project work includes land, vegetation, and watershed assessments designed to assess existing conditions, develop restoration priorities, monitor restoration impacts and develop the essential building blocks of large-scale implementation planning.

Informed by our geospatial services, monitoring, strong partnership network, and extensive knowledge of the land, the Watershed Center has created numerous planning documents that have informed implementation and restoration priorities  throughout Trinity County, helping to inform long range, landscape-scale planning and adaptive management.

Check out these exciting projects below to learn more about our environmental planning and watershed assessment work:

Big Creek Integrated Watershed Management Plan

This Watershed Assessment is an existing conditions report providing an overview of natural processes, active land management, and their relationship to the quality and quantity of the municipal water supply for the community of Hayfork, California.  Drawing on multiple disciplines, this collaboratively-developed assessment incorporates a diverse range of interests to draft a widely supported watershed management plan. The primary objectives identify short and long term management strategies to reduce the potential impacts of non-point source pollution, protect beneficial uses, and improve water body quality in Big Creek and the Ewing Reservoir.

Spring Chinook in the South Fork Trinity River: Recommended Management Actions and the Status of their Implementation

This document summarizes the available literature on the South Fork Trinity River and its tributaries as they link to spring-run Chinook salmon (Spring Chinook). Data gaps and potential limiting factors for South Fork Trinity River Spring Chinook have been identified and recommendations for next steps have been outlined.

South Fork Trinity River Supplemental Watershed Assessment (FRGP)

This report is a gap analysis assessment for the South Fork Trinity River Watershed that is designed to address existing information deficits in previous watershed assessment documents. The assessment provides a general overview of the South Fork Trinity River watershed and summarizes past studies. The report also reviews major findings, analysis, and data from a suite of individual assessments analyzing water conservation measures, stream temperature analysis, riparian vegetation assessment and planning, and fish passage at stream diversion and mouth.
