The North Fork Community Power Forest Bioenergy Facility (NFCP) is one of the first forest-sourced biomass gasification plants in California developed. Located in North Fork, California, the facility will utilize sustainably harvested materials sourced from fuel reduction activities on forest lands. Use of these materials will help fund fuels reduction work by creating a profitable market for them, while also creating local jobs, fostering industry, and providing a forest-healthy source of energy.
The NFCP, currently under construction, will serve as a demonstration facility under the North Fork Bioenergy Project (NFBP). This project will be contributing to forest and economic health in many exciting ways:
A hub of learning: Partners across multiple fields have come together to develop the NFBP project. As it develops, it is providing a source of research and learning that will inform industry development, while providing a living research facility for academics, researchers, and land management practitioners alike.
Laying the foundations of economic development: We are working to create a sustainable industry that creates jobs in rural communities and builds economies that benefit the environment. The successful implementation of this biomass facility will be a key success in efforts to support rural economies and land management, and will be a vital step in pioneering biomass energy development and research in the state of California.
Helping prevent California’s Tree Mortality blight: The development of this project is also a key strategy on the part of natural resource management practitioners to address the tree mortality crisis. By making significant steps to restore forest health and remove sick trees, this project will have a significant impact on preventing tree mortality.
The NFBP is a long-term project. We are excited to help it grow, and to continue our mission of investing in thriving communities and healthy lands.
