Northern California Prescribed Fire Training

The Northern California Prescribed Fire Training Exchange (Nor Cal TREX) is an annual prescribed fire training exchange hosted by the Northern California Prescribed Fire Council. Each year this event brings 30-40 prescribed fire practitioners from across the country to restore fire to Northern California’s diverse fire adapted ecosystems.

TREX events are hosted around the country based on a model developed by The Nature Conservancy’s Fire Learning Network. The Nor Cal TREX is unique in that participants move to a variety of sites around northwestern California training with site hosts at the National Park Service, on private lands with non-profit partners like the Watershed Center, and with BLM and USFS partners. This exposes participants to a range of prescribed fire management approaches.

As one of the site hosts for Nor Cal TREX, the Watershed Center has been able to increase local capacity and achieve on-the-ground fire restoration.
